In 2026, nearly three years after its release, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom continues to inspire players to turn Hyrule into a workshop of improbable machinery. The latest example comes from a Zelda fan who used Link’s Ultrahand ability to construct a massive, working pinball machine out of Zonai devices and nearby construction materials. The creation, which the builder calls “Hyrule Pinball,” transforms the game’s sandbox physics into a makeshift arcade cabinet large enough to contain a heavy metal ball.

The project is attributed to Tears of the Kingdom player Recent-Marsupial-65, who assembled the machine from components that most players usually reserve for vehicles or puzzle solutions. Large metal platforms serve as the frame, while several springs are attached together to form the pinball launching device. The cabinet itself is built from additional wooden platforms and construction materials, giving the contraption a rough, improvised look that fits the game’s post-Upheaval aesthetic. Various Zonai stakes are driven into the ground to act as pegs, stopping the pinball’s momentum or redirecting it on contact. In one observed interaction, a stake rotates after the machine is hit, adding a moving element to the otherwise static playfield.

The centerpiece is a large metal ball, the same kind normally found near certain puzzles in Hyrule and inside a few of the game’s shrines. Although the ball is very heavy, the pinball machine is large enough to keep it contained within the frame. The result behaves less like a toy and more like a mechanical hedge maze designed for a cannonball—a comparison that captures both the scale of the build and the unpredictable path of the ball. Its springs and stakes form a clockwork orchestra, with each collision acting as a percussion note in a Hylian arcade symphony. The frame itself is a skeletal cathedral of metal and wood, built to trap a heavy metal congregation without letting it escape.

Building such a device requires patience, but the underlying abilities are familiar to most players. Link unlocks Ultrahand early in Tears of the Kingdom by completing four introductory shrines on the Great Sky Island. After finishing “The Closed Door” quest, Link can freefall down to Hyrule and use his new powers to aid the search for Princess Zelda. Ultrahand lets players attach objects such as Zonai devices together, creating energy-powered vehicles and machines that can help Link traverse the kingdom—or, in this case, build a miniature game inside it.

There are practical limits. Players who want to build their own Zonai-powered pinball machine may first need to upgrade their energy cells, since prolonged use of Ultrahand and Zonai devices will completely drain Link’s energy capacity. The machine’s size and the weight of the metal ball also mean that small adjustments can have outsized effects, much like tuning an instrument that is also a building. Even so, the concept appears to be a creative mini-game that is not widely known in the community, and it suggests room for further refinement. Additional functions and contraptions could be added, and Zonai device dispensers may give builders more ideas for pinball machines and other Ultrahand creations. By visiting a dispenser and depositing Zonai charges, Link earns a variety of devices that could prove useful later in the game—or in the next homemade arcade experiment.

For a game released in 2023, Tears of the Kingdom remains available for Nintendo Switch and continues to produce player-made spectacles that feel fresh in 2026. Hyrule Pinball is less a formal game mode than a proof of concept: a reminder that Ultrahand is limited mainly by imagination, energy cells, and the willingness to experiment. 🎮
